Setting up the template for the first time

  1. Input opening stock units
  2. Input previous year sales and stock units (if known)
  3. Input current year intake (can be a mix of actualised and forecast intake)
  4. Input current year sales units (can be a mix of actualised and forecast sales)

Updating actualised numbers

  1. Input actualised current year sales units, closing stock units and intake for the reporting week.
  2. Change the colour of the updated sales to grey to show at a glance the difference between actualised and forecast data.

Accessing performance metrics

  1. Negative closing stock units – this will indicate that forecast units are too high or forecast intake it too light
  2. Forward cover is less than the forecast forward cover – in this template the forecast forward cover is four weeks
  3. Forward cover is over two weeks slower than the forecast forward cover – in this template the forecast forward cover is four weeks
  4. Current year sales are less than previous year, but stock is higher than previous year
